A PRESTON accountant who has donated her financial skills to help a local charity raise thousands of pounds has won a national award and a prize of £2,000 for her charity.
Anne Metcalf’s work as a volunteer for Gift’92, a Preston-based charity which collects and donates unwanted furniture to disadvantaged people, has won a prestigious Everybody Counts Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW).
The awards celebrate accountants’ involvement and commitment to charity and community work and were launched in 2000.
Anne, who holds a Diploma in Charity Accounting, also works as a corporate and charity manager at Preston-based Moore and Smalley Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, has been a pivotal figure along with her husband, Peter Metcalf, in setting up and running Gift’92 since the Preston Guild of 1992.
Anne is now a trustee and its treasurer and was commended for her work at the charity which includes making over 40 grants in the past 12-months helping to raise over £25,000 towards core and warehouse renovation costs.
Anne said: “The charity meets a very real charitable need, whilst at the same time helping to reduce landfill and its affect on the environment by encouraging the recycling and re-use of household goods. We have a dedicated team at Gift who enable the charity to operate so successfully, helping over 1,300 people annually.
I am delighted to receive the award and the £2,000 prize for Gift.”
Christine Wilson, partner and head of the specialist charity team at Moore and Smalley, said: “It’s wonderful for Anne to be recognised at such a high level. All charities require voluntary help especially from financial specialists who can help gives charities a clear direction, stay solvent and help meet targets.”
