Total Care expands with Heritage Homecare acquisition

LANCASTER and Kendal-based domiciliary care business, Total Care North West Ltd, has doubled in size after acquiring Colne-based Heritage Homecare Services Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

Total Care, which provides a wide range of home care services across North Lancashire and South Lakeland, will move Heritage Homecare’s office to a larger site in Nelson and also open a new training business as part of the expansion.

The deal doubles Total Care’s turnover and staff numbers and gives the business a strategic foothold in East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire.

The Lancaster-based corporate finance team at Moore and Smalley Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, advised the owners of Total Care, Angela Hughes and Kay Randle, on the purchase.

Paul Bennett, senior manager in the Moore and Smalley corporate finance team, said: “Total Care has a good balance of private and public sector business and Heritage Homecare has several local authority contracts making this is an excellent strategic fit for Total Care, both geographically and operationally.”

Angela Hughes, co-founder and director of Total Care, said: “This is a natural progression of our business taking us into another area of the North West and allowing us to acquire further local authority work.”

Total Care, which has 35 employees, was established in 2006 and provides personal care, night care, palliative care, companionship support, respite care, domestic help and 24 hour live-in care.

The Heritage Homecare name will be retained in East Lancashire and the offices will be moved from, Keighley Road, Colne, to new modern premises in The Ace Centre, Cross Street, Nelson.

As part of its expansion, Total Care has also launched a new business, Total Training, to be based in Nelson. Initially this will employ two people and give training to employees of Total Care and Heritage Homecare with a view to offering training services to other care providers in the near future. The new enlarged Total Care business will now employ around 70 staff.
